Alvito is a must-visit nice Portuguese hamlet locate just 38 kilometres in the North to Beja and 37 in the Southeast to Évora, in the Alentejo.

This beautiful small village was home of Portuguese barons. The first one was João Fernandes da Silveira, who transformed Alvito in an art reference.

It is worth to visit some areas of the 15th century old castle, nowadays a luxury pousada (a kind of bed and breakfast); and some other religious buildings like the Ermida de São Sebastião Shrine (16th century), where several well-preserved frescos are shown. It is also interesting to walk along the Route of Fresco, a fascinating cultural trip to Baroque monuments full of frescoes and tiles.

The end of June is a great moment to visit Alvito, when the Festa do Barão Celebration takes place.
