Cacilhas is located beside the river, in front of Lisbon, on the other side of Tejo river, in the Peninsula of Setúbal. It’s greatest attraction is the statue of Cristo Rei that can be seen from almost every point of the city, thanks to its 110 metres high.
The statue is located on top of a pedestal with open arms. It’s a Baroque version of the Cristo Redentor of Río de Janeiro. This statue was risen in 1959 to thank God for saving Portugal from the horrors of the II World War.
If your idea is to access the platform of the statue and contemplate a marvelous panoramic view over Lisbon, the place offers a lifter to do so.
The town of Cacilhas is also famous for its good cervejarias (breweries), where you will be able to taste good fresh fish plates and beers while you contemplate the views over the Tejo river.
