The Costumes National Museum is the best space to visit if you’re looking for some important historic costumes as well as to understand the evolution of dressing in Portugal.

The Costumes National Museum (Museu Nacional do Traje) has the mission of letting you know more about portuguese clothing throughout the History, as well as to investigate and conserve important samples.

This museum has more than 7000 clothing pieces as well as different accessories used by the Portuguese Royal Family. Mostly all pieces were donated to the museum by more than 1500 donators. The pieces exposed represent many different styles and periods as well as many other ornaments as shoes, socks, gloves, fans, purses, scarfs, handkerchiefs, shawls, hats and many others.
You might even observe, on this museum, furniture pieces, decorative arts and even toys and games.

The museum is divided in two main exhibitions, costumes from the XIX century and costumes from the XIX century.
