Golfing tradition in Madeira dates to 1937, period during which the English families Miles, Blandy and Leacock built the first golf course with nine holes in the island.

Presently, the region has more than 72 holes, distributed among three golf fields, two in Madeira Island, one with 18 holes and another with 27; and another one in Porto Santo Island, also with 27 holes, and nine of those are integrated in the pitch and putt circuit.
