Peniche is known for its tubular perfect waves. Its beaches are known by some surfers as having the most perfect waves on the world. These are some of the reasons why these are named the Supertubes of Peniche.

The formation of the Supertubes is due to the port wall which prevents the northern wind to reach these beaches forming the perfect stage for several national and international championships.

Peniche is a recommended place for experience surfers as the winds might be strong and waves might have a wide dimension.

The best beaches to practice surf are the Medão Beach and Atouguia da Baleia, south of the city.
