The Jardim do Paço Episcopal Garden are one of the main attractions of Castelo Branco.

These beautiful gardens were created in the 17th century next to the palace of the bishop, to entertain him and his court. The gardens feature a vast amount of trees, many of them real unique specimens, terraces, fountains, and a lake.

 

All them constitute one of the most unique examples in Europe.

At the end of the lake known was Lago das Coronas, you will find a monumental staircase with several statues of the Apostles, Evangelists, and ancient Kings of Portugal. The Spanish Kings Philip II, Philip III, and Philip IV, from the Austrian dynasty, have been omitted. Across the street, you can find the Parque da Cidade, next to the Graça Convent.
