The Marqués de Pombal Municipal Museum is located in the old building of the Cadeia Velha de Pombal, commanded to be built by the Marquis of Pombal himself in 1776.

This museum is perfect to get an idea about national and local history in the 18th century, as well as the life of the Marquis as a central point in Portuguese political life of the time.

This monographic museum has a collection made up by books of that time, dating the oldest one from 1717. This museum also houses an area with legislative documents, sentences and original letters of the law, and manuscripts, some of them written by the marquis himself, about his public and private life.
