Ponte Maria Pia Bridge, Porto - Vila Nova de Gaia

Gaze at the Ponte Maria Pia Bridge, between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.

This bridge was the first rail connection between both banks of the Douro. Besides, it was also one of the first works in iron by the engineer Gustave Eiffel.

Its opening took place on November 4th, 1877, and was attended by Queen Maria Pia and her husband, King D. Luis I. In that time, it created a great expectation for both Portuguese and foreigners.
