Praça Marqués de Pombal square, formerly known as Praça Real, is the main square in Vila Real de Santo António city.

This square was designed by Captain Reinaldo Manuel dos Santos, the King’s architect. Nowadays, its four corners are decorated with trees and seats where you will be able to rest in the shade. In the heart of the square is the famous and monumental obelisk, placed in 1776 in the honour of king Mr. Jose I.
