The Praia de São Torpes Beach is known as a large beach of calmed waters where surfing and bodyboarding lovers find a perfect place to practise their favourite sports.

This beach has coarse sand compared to others in this area, as well as heavy swell. It has lifeguarding service.

São Torpes Beach has an average water temperature above the rest of the beaches nearby due to the fact that it’s located next to Sines’ thermal power station, that warms the waters of this region without any problem for public health.

There’s a local legend that goes that there was a time when a whole city was located under the sand of this beach.
