São Clemente Fortress, Vila Nova de Milfontes

Discover this landmark fortress which used to defend the town of Vila Nova de Milfontes from pirate attacks.

The São Clemente Fortress is a defensive building atop a hill over the mouth of the river Mira, in Vila Nova de Milfontes, Odemira, Portugal.

The fortress was built in 1602 to defend the people from the pirate attacks, and well as guaranteeing the maritime commerce.

Currently, the fortress has some modifications to the original image performed in 1939, when a person bought and restored it.
