Douro Region are two of the most interesting tourist destinations on the Northern area of Portugal. This tourist region offers exceptional beautiful landscapes with the river Douro as background, as well as the prestigious wine caves, historic fortresses, medieval stone houses, and vineyards located on high slope terraces.

The Douro is a strong river with occasional waves forming this unique landscape. At the mouth of the river you will find Portothe second largest city in Portugal. Visiting Porto is a must if you are passing through this region. Along the course of the river you might find welcoming cities and villages which have always depended on its water, food, and commerce. It’s heritage is enriched by traditional 18th century palaces, farms, majestic cathedrals, baroque churches and interesting avenues with modern style.

The best time to visit Porto and Douro is during the months of June, July, and August as it is then when you might find the best temperatures and less rainfalls. During this time you will find several celebrations such as the São João Festivity, on July 24th , which is celebrated with music, fireworks, and plastic hammers. A short film festival is hosted in Vila Do Conde during the month of July.

Some of the most interesting activities which you shouldn’t miss here are:

1. To discover the historic city of Porto by walking on its steep streets filled with monuments
