To arrive to Santa Cruz das Flores, the capital city of Flores Island, Azores, the access can be done via airplane. The airport is set up in the middle of amazing waterfalls. During the landing, you will have a dizziness feeling due to the surrounding rocky place.

This city offers a little bit of everything. It has an interesting museum located over a former Franciscan convent, a tourism office with excellents samples of handicraft, and several hotels, bars, supermarkets, gift shops and restaurants. The tickets prices here are a little bit more expensive due to the isolation of the island.

In this area stands out the Largo 25 de Abril Square, where you will find the baroque São Boaventura Convent dating back from 1641, currently hosting the Flores Museum; and the Pimentel de Mesquita House Museum, where you will find the recreation of a bourgeois house and the way of life of different social classes from the 18th century to the 20th. Also the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Conceição Mother Church, the Fábrica da Baleia Factory and the Exréus Grotto stand out.

In the West end of the city you will find fascinating places like the Miradouro da Fãja do Conde and the Miradouro da Caveira Viewpoints.

Around 2.5 kilometres far to the North, is found Fazenda de Santa Cruz, dominated by the 20th century Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Lourdes Mother Church, with two twin towers and a wide atrium, next to where is located the Engenheiro Luís Paula Camacho Forestal Park, where you will find a picnic area and and a viewpoint situated over Ribeira Badalena, where you will see exotic quails, rabbits, peacocks, chickens and gooses.

In the parish of Cedros you will find other overlooks from where you will be able to enjoy the magnificent views of the Corvo Island at the back, or towards other areas such as Ribeira da Cruz, the Ponta Da Caveira or Santa Cruz city itself.

A good date to visit this city is during the first Sunday of August, when the big festivities of São João are celebrated.
